Heritage is innovation
Design dialogue
Design Trust Futures Studio makes visible the processes and positive role of design in the culture of contemporary design and production. In 2019, under the theme of ‘HERITAGE IS INNOVATION’ new conversations and site-specific objects are created at the historic 1936 Haw Par Mansion in Tai Hang curated by Marisa Yiu (Co-founder/ Executive Director, Design Trust).
The “Heritage Design Dialogue” and sharing takes place- weather permitting on the rooftop of Haw Par mansion- Friday 20th September 2019. Topic focuses on ‘DESIGN INNOVATION & CULTURAL HERITAGE’, highlighting the role of heritage, history, and archives in design, and the significance of innovation in materiality, craft-making, and design thinking in contemporary culture. Through a cultural lab design approach, how do we design from our collective memory infusing local values and global reach? What is the importance of innovation in cultural heritage, and how do we create new models of learning and prototyping processes?
